Descriptive Statistics in Social Sciences

Introduction
- This course corresponds to the contents of the Descriptive Statistics part of the 'Statistics I' subjects taught in all the degrees of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and Management (Business Administration and Management, Economics, Finance and Accounting, Marketing and Market Research) of the University of Zaragoza. Specifically, as the contents are in English, they are taught in the group with teaching in English (ADEi) of the degree in Business Administration and Management.Similar contents are taught in subjects of other degrees in the field of Social Sciences: 'Statistics' in the degree in Labour Relations and Human Resources or 'Applied Statistics' in the degree in Management and Public Administration.JUSTIFICATION OF THE COURSE and OBJECTIVES
This course has been designed to support the subject 'Statistics I' of the degree in Business Administration and Management (English group) and to respond to the existing demand from students of the degrees in which there is no teaching group in English.
It can also be used by professionals working in the field of Social Sciences who need to complement their training in order to be able to carry out a descriptive statistical analysis of a set of data. The materials in English will facilitate the learning of the specific vocabulary of the subject to be able to use it in the international field.
Moreover, this course encourages student autonomy in their learning.GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE SUBJECT
The course covers the contents of Descriptive Statistics in the field of Social Sciences. First (Part I), the basic concepts that will be used throughout the course are introduced. Next (Part II), the statistical, numerical, and graphical tools are presented to carry out a descriptive study of a variable. The last part (Part III) focuses on the statistical analysis of two variables, introducing the linear regression model and some non-linear regression models commonly used in Economics.

The 'Self-assessment tests' section includes self-assessment questionnaires for each of the parts. For each test, an Excel file is provided with the data referred to in the test. At the end of the test, the score obtained is displayed.
